[REFLECTION] CREATING MEDIA IS ART.

MAKING MEDIA,
a course that I have experienced, learned and enhanced so much.

I always keep in mind that I'm a very lucky person when I have a chance to study at RMIT University, enabling myself to develop the most with amazing courses and professional environment. Among all the courses that I've engaged, I consider Making Media is one of the courses left me the most adorable memories.

Since after almost 3-month living with it, I realized that I can do everything if I learn and try with all of my enthusiast and passion. I just need to try my best, everything will become possible.

"I CAN DO IT ALONE": IT'S WRONG!

I used to consider that working individually is more productive for me. When I knew that 2 first assignments (Podcast and Magazine) must work as a team, I was really confused and worried. However, after these 2 assignments, I drew for myself that the outcome is still great if I do individually, but it will be better if we work as a team. Because in fact, a creative product is involved the work of so so so much people, for example, a movie, a TVC, a campaign, a music video, etc. A product is efforts of a large number of people collaborating, at that time, everyone becomes as one.

I have improved the adaptivity skills as well as teamwork skills throughout the 2 first assignments, which is essential for my future career that I want to pursue. Even though we work as a small team with 4 people (Luan, Thao, My, and me) within a short period, we had wonderful memories including having fun, working productively, developing ideas, and creating media products together.

STUDIO-BASED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT - A NOVELTY TO ME.

Making Media course provides me the opportunity to familiarize with the studio-based learning model. It was the first time I used professional devices to create media products such as Zoom HN4 Recorder, Canon camera, floodlight, and so on. At first, I was so clumsy when using these devices, but gradually, I became accustomed to it. In addition, I've learned how to edit sound by Audacity software (an editing sound software), edit photos by Photoshop software with various operations (Photoshop is a raster graphics editor), and design magazine by Adobe Illustrator software and InDesign software. Thanks to this course, I became more confident in the studio-based environment, which is an advantage in preparing my career path in the creative industry.

CREATING MEDIA IS ART.

After Making Media course, I understand that a creative product such as a Podcast I listen on the road to home, a Magazine I read on the bookstore, a TVC I watch on TV, a Poster Advertising that I see on a Billboard, a Music video I watch on YouTube, a song I listen on Spotify, and other creative products is created by attempts, time, money, and creativity of too many people, not just 1 or 2, it can come to thousands of people. Creating product requires patience, meticulousness, enthusiasm and creativity. Making media is a sophisticated, detailed-oriented, creativity needed, dedicated, and admirable job as it delivers precious values to everyone in our lives.

It's more than just creating a thing to please our eyes, ears, and excitements.

It's art.

Lastly, it is a lie if I say that the whole process of studying Making Media is flat without difficulties and challenges. While doing 2 assignments which are Podcast and Magazine, we found it hard to choose the topic, generate ideas, develop the contents, and divide work for each member, besides, the late deadline of (a) team member(s) is unavoidable. It was uneasy to perform work well if there is/ are (a) member(s) not contributing enough time and efforts in it. However, we still conciliated and did our best based on each member's strengths and potentials.

Overall, Making Media a wonderful course that I have encountered awesome people and learned from them, especially our enthusiastic, professional teacher, Dr Soumik Parida.
